LYC Moorings – Useful Contacts & Advice
A Word to the Wise
Anyone who has visited the area before already knows that the tide runs here just as hard as it does on the Mersey. Wind over tide conditions can result in boats lying side-on to both until either force eventually wins over. The sideways snatch on mooring gear can cause problems unless you’ve got a substantial stem head fitting and strong cleats. To help prevent chain rash it’s also good practice to tie a couple of fenders together and suspend them either side of your bow to keep the mooring chain and the buoy from scuffing your topsides.
If you find that the pick-up chain has wrapped around the mooring chain, particularly with the mooring close to the bridge, give it time and it will normally unwrap if you apply gentle reverse thrust or come back to it at a different state of the tide.
