Introduction to Chart Work

Last night saw the start of our 2021 online peer learning series and we started with an introduction to Chart Work by Neil. The session began with the basics of using a course plotter and working out a bearing between two points on the chart. We then discussed the start of a passage down the Mersey following the buoy channel markers before reaching Q1. Once at Q1 we discussed the merits of passage routes avoiding potential obstructions, for example the Anchoring Area, the Wind Farms and Traffic Separation Scheme, TSS. We chose a northerly route and used the course plotter and the divides to work out bearings and distances. It was a great introduction to chart work essentials and everyone is looking forward to the next one once it’s scheduled. LYC members will be emailed with the details soon.
